The best in the west.

It was a phrase commonly used in my household to describe things that were extremely favored. When you combine that with a passion for documenting life, you get Hue and Hide, a soul-led, western, lifestyle and commercial photography business supporting real land, real work and real people.

If you’re still reading this, you’re the kind of person that understands nothing worth having gets built on a faulty foundation, whether that be a business or a passion project; that’s where I come in.

Before this, I was a Marine, and after that, a builder, and if one thing is worth stating, “Grit Don’t Quit!”

So, if any of this resonated with you, send me a message or give me a call; I’d love to talk.

About The Artist:

Where I Came From

Hue and Hide came to me during one of the most transformative times of my life.

As I was building myself up as a union carpenter apprentice, and former Marine, tragedy struck and I lost everything I loved - my job, my sense of purpose, and all previous identities I tied myself to. However, I never lost my faith or belief that if you can survive your worst days, you can create your best ones.

I became a mother during this period, and I've often described this thought of bridging the gap between two realities - feeling blessed to become a mother while experiencing intense grief. Instead of feeding the darkness I felt, I started honoring it with light; photography.

I've had a camera in my hand off and on since I was a kid, and picked it back up to take monthly, milestone photos of my son. I am extremely grateful I have those memories, because some of them don't exist in my mind anymore.

That's the power of an image.

A light-colored cow with large horns stands behind a metal fence in an outdoor farm setting, with a partly cloudy sky in the background.

For a split second, the land you inhabit and the people you love are frozen in time forever.

HUE & HIDE — THE STORY CONTINUES

Where
I'm Going

What started as a way to hold onto my own son's first year has become something bigger than I expected; a belief that everyone deserves to be witnessed the way I needed to be witnessed then.

I'm building Hue and Hide as more than a photography business. It's becoming a record of the West as it actually is — the land, the animals, the work, the families…the quiet, ordinary moments most people never think to save until they're already gone.

Before this, I was a Marine, and after that, a builder, and if one thing is worth stating, "Grit Don't Quit!"

I'm carrying that same foundation into this: nothing worth having gets built overnight, and I'm building this one honest frame at a time.

ONE HONEST FRAME AT A TIME

Why It
Matters for You

I know what it feels like to reach for a memory and find it isn't fully there anymore. I also know what it feels like to have one image hold you up when nothing else could.

That's what I want to give the people I photograph…not a performance for the camera, but something real enough to still mean something years from now. A transformative experience.

If I've learned anything, it's that you never know which ordinary moment is the one you'll need to hold onto later.

So if you're standing in an ordinary moment of your life right now, I'd be honored to help you keep it.

Let's create magic in the mundane.
WITH GRIT AND GRATITUDE — DEBRA Hue & Hide
REAL WORK REAL LAND REAL PEOPLE

Your story is worth remembering.

What I’ve learned through my own life is that the moments we think we’ll always remember are often the ones that quietly fade with time. That’s why I photograph the way I do — with intention, honesty, and a deep appreciation for the people, places, and lives in front of my lens.

Whether you’re documenting your family, the work you’ve poured yourself into, the land you call home, or simply a season of life you never want to forget, I’d be honored to be there to capture it.

Let’s create something real.
